The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) provides limited, temporary coverage of healthcare benefits to people in the following groups who aren’t eligible for provincial or territorial health insurance:
- protected persons, including resettled refugees (PSR and GAR)
- refugee claimants
- certain other groups

IFHP pays for urgent or essential health care in Canada. It also covers some medical services for resettled refugees before they arrive. Coverage depends on eligibility group. Full details on what services are covered under IFHP can be found on this info page.

As of May 1, 2026, IFHP is introducing co-payments on supplemental health benefits.
Beneficiaries will pay:
- $4 for each eligible prescription medication filled or refilled
- 30% of the cost covered by the IFHP for other eligible supplemental health benefits
