Real World Assessment Task Bank – Ottawa-Carleton District School Board

Brief Description:

This Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) aligned resource includes stand-alone assessment tasks for use by LINC programs.

Summary:

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) has developed a bank of “real world” assessment tasks for use by LINC programs. The project development team included 22 OCDSB ESL/LINC Instructors, 2 PBLA Leads, and over 190 Instructors who piloted the tasks from over 70 organizations across Canada.

The tasks are available for download at: http://realworldtasks.ca/login.php The password is: “instructor”

These single skill, stand-alone assessment tasks are not lessons or module plans. Task based assesments should always be part of a planned unit of inter-related language tasks on a specific topic.

NOTE – the original website, realworldtasks.ca, has been taken down permanently. All these resources are now available through Tutela. New users will need to create an account, which is free to anyone involved with language teaching for newcomers in Canada. Once logged in to Tutela, search the keyword “OCDSB” on the resources page to find all the modules originally available through the realworldtasks site.
