On December 4, 2018 the Settlement and Integration Policy Branch hosted an information webinar on family law issues for settlement workers. The webinar was led by Jocelyn Kapusta, Legal Counsel with the Family, Children and Youth Section at the Department of Justice Canada and Victoria Stillie from the Policy Centre for Victim Issues at the Department of Justice Canada. An overview of current and emerging family law issues was shared.
Key topics included: differences between marriage and common law relationships; separation and divorce; division of property; parenting arrangements (custody and access); relocation of a child; child and spousal support; support enforcement; child protection; gender-based violence and partner abuse.
