Exploring Facts, Fears and Impacts About Refugee Claimants in Manitoba
The Bread & Borders Toolkit is a community resource designed to support meaningful conversations about immigration, refugees, and inclusion. Originally developed in 2017 by the Refugee Claimant Public Education Working Group (Winnipeg), the toolkit provides:
- Practical tools for facilitating dialogue
- Activities to challenge myths and stereotypes
- Guidance for engaging diverse audiences in respectful and informed conversations
The resource has been updated to reflect current contexts and emerging issues, with data and statistics revised in March 2025. We are grateful to the original contributors and partners who shaped this work through their active participation in the Refugee Claimant Public Education Working Group, coordinated by Natasha Mohammed, Louise Simbandumwe, Abdikheir Ahmed, Reuben Garang, and Immigration Partnership Winnipeg.

Building on this work
This work is being further advanced through the Beyond Borders: Toolkit for Countering Refugee Racism project. This Manitoba-wide initiative is made possible with the support of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF), with funding from the Government of Canada.
From April 2026 to March 2027, the project will work with partners across Manitoba to design and deliver training and tools that support communities in countering misinformation, challenging racism and harmful narratives, and strengthening anti-racism and anti-hate capacity. The project will also inform a policy brief to support future public policy development. Stay tuned for more information and updates on this initiative.
