The online GIS and mapping portal is useful for a variety of purposes, including orientation purposes (i.e., orienting oneself, members of your organization, and others to important immigration and settlement patterns either at a particular point in time or over time), producing presentations, producing proposals (e.g., contribution based agreements) and producing reports (e.g., annual reports, special reports for actual or potential funders).
The GIS Mapping Project on Immigration and Settlement Patterns in Western Canada was undertaken by Immigration Research West (IRW) with the support of IRCC. It contains 50 census variables from 8 categories and is capable of producing more than 2,500 unique online maps (dot maps, heat maps, bar chart maps, pie chart maps and choropleth maps) The online maps work on major web browsers Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari
