Using Plain Language Workshop
November 22 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for a hands-on workshop on developing Plain Language resources that are accessible to those with lower levels of English literacy. Understand how you can apply plain language principles and clear design to your written documents (from posters to guidebooks), and collaborate with your peers on improving the accessibility of your materials.
This workshop is designed to help organizations prepare to meet the standards of the Accessibility for Manitobans Act (2013). It is helpful for staff of the settlement sector (settlement workers, language program coordinators, project coordinators, etc.) who develop written materials for clients, as well as organizations that wish to remove barriers affecting persons with disabilities or low-level language skills.
Facilitators: Melissa Germain and Corrina Loewen
Melissa Germain and Corrina Loewen have worked in a wide variety of roles in the Manitoba settlement sector for more than 20 years teaching newcomers, developing programs and curriculum, and training new teachers. Currently, Melissa works as an Employment Development and Essential Skills Facilitator at Opportunities for Employment and Corrina is an instructor and Curriculum Coordinator at the Entry Program. They are passionate about making Plain Language resources accessible to everyone through their interactive training, customized workshops, and consultations.
MANSO is offering this workshop on a cost-recovery basis of $35 for MANSO members and $50 for non-members. Registration is available here.
