SERC: Reducing Stigma Related to Sexually Transmitted and Blood-borne Infections (STBBIs), Sexuality, and Substance Use through Trauma and Violence Informed Care (TVIC)

June 4 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

SERC in collaboration with Calgary Sexual Health Centre and the Canadian Public Health Association is hosting two workshops on

Reducing Stigma Related to Sexually Transmitted and Blood-borne Infections (STBBIs), Sexuality,
and Substance Use through Trauma and Violence Informed Care (TVIC)

Learning objectives:
• Increased knowledge of the various forms of stigma and the factors that contribute to stigma
related to sexuality, substance use and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections
(STBBIs), including personal values and beliefs as well as organizational policies and practices;
• Increased knowledge of the principles of trauma and violence informed care (TVIC) and
enhanced skills in applying this approach to reduce stigma during discussions related to
sexuality, substance use and STBBIs; and
• Enhanced awareness of TVIC policies and practices that can be used to reduce stigma at the
organizational level.

During this interactive workshop, you will have an opportunity to explore the principles of TVIC, and
learn to employ this approach within your practice to challenge the stigma associated with STBBIs,
sexuality, and substance use. You will gain practical tools and skills to help you integrate TVIC into your
interactions with clients, and into the policies and practices of your organizations.

Workshop will take place on June 4th, 2018, and registration is reserved for MANSO members and friends.  (Contact MANSO for the registration password).

Note, there is also a workshop in Brandon on June 5th, 2018.  Register online here
